THE owner of the Selsey Off-Licence is expanding his business further just 18 months after taking over the reins.
Andy Short took over the off-licence, and created the wine delivery brand Winebulance, which is now well-known locally but also worldwide on social media.
Now he is starting a new off-shoot off the business, the Takeaway Doctor.
The idea is that it will be an all-in-one takeaway service in Selsey and the surrounding areas.
“You argue about what you’re going to have for dinner and you end up compromising,” said Andy.
“But with us you can get four dishes from different places. That is the ultimate service really.”
People can call up, order a Chinese, an Indian, fish and chips and wine, and Andy and his team will deliver the lot to your door.
“The greatest challenge for us is to make sure it is all hot,” said Andy.
He said the key to that problem was to make sure the orders were all ready to collect at the same time, so he can deliver them straight away.
“It’s not going to be for everyone,” he said.
“If you all agree you want an Indian, you’re not going to bother coming to me.”
But he hopes the service will come in handy for those who can’t compromise on their perfect takeaway.
Looking to the future, he said he could see two or three additional people running the delivery service if the project took off, creating more jobs for the town.
After the success of the Winebulance, and his revamp of The Selsey Off-Licence, Andy spoke about his success and expanding business.
The off-licence is now home to a wine-tasting machine so people can try before they buy, and Andy puts on wine-tasting nights for customers.
He has also taken on a collection of rental DVDs to borrow, which coincides with the Takeaway Doctor to create a perfect night in.
And that’s not all. He has also teamed up with Selsey seafood retailer Julie’s Hut, to sell fresh fish in store, bringing that business on to the high street.
“It’s about creating something different,” he said. “We are always trying to appeal to the market.”
