There’s a famous face you might have spotted.

It appeared in the Observer in March, 1992, in an article about pupils from Great Ballard School in Eartham, who were appearing in the school’s production of The Miser.

Yes, centre of the photograph is a young Honeysuckle Weeks, star of the ITV drama series Foyle’s War.

The actress grew up in Chichester and Petworth, and as a child she was a member of the Chichester Festival Theatre. She has also worked on a variety of other television shows, and has film and stage acting credits.

She was educated at Great Ballard before continuing her schooling at Roedean School.

They were performing in a brand new theatre, which was the venue for that year’s school production.

The newly-completed theatre was part of a major redevelopment programme at the school which involved new laboratories, new changing rooms and revamped kitchens.

Mr Mike Piercy, the head of English, said he was delighted the annual production would that year be held on the school site, rather than at Slindon village hall.

The production was to be Moliere’s classic comedy The Miser, a play recently revived at Chichester Festival Theatre.

But where the theatre brought the play from the 17th Century to the 20th, the Great Ballard production kept firmly to the inspiration of the original.

The cast of 14 was aged from 11 to 13.
