A FISHING boat suffered a major oil leak five nautical miles off Selsey Bill.

Selsey all-weather lifeboat went to the rescue of the 31ft angling vessel Esk Lady, which was unable to run its engine in a position five-and-a-half nautical miles of Selsey Bill.

The lifeboat was contacted by the coastguard at 12.29pm yesterday (September 5) and the lifeboat was launched at 12.38pm.

It arrived on the scene at 1pm, where a tow rope was attached

The Isle of Wight-based fishing boat was towed to Bembridge Harbour, arriving at 2.20pm, where another boat took over the towing.

The lifeboat was released to return to the station at 2.25pm.

It returned at 3.30pm and was made ready for service at 4pm.
