Because You’re Worth It with Emily Thorpe

With April Fools’ Day looming, today I want to talk about ‘goofing around’ and laughter.

Let me ask you, when did you last have a real belly laugh?

One that made your eyes stream and your stomach hurt.

As grown-ups we can tend to take life a bit too seriously, but I would like to invite you to let down your guard and embrace fun, goofiness and oodles of laughter, after all it is the best medicine!

Here are just a few benefits;

Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes.

Laughter boosts the immune system. Increasing immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, improving your resistance to disease.

Laughter triggers the release of endorphins.

The body’s natural feel-good chemicals, which promote an overall sense of well-being and pain relief.

Laughter protects the heart. It improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

And that’s just the physical benefits.

Laughter can also keep relationships fresh and create bonds between people.

It will make you feel and look younger, full of joy and vitality.

I have a friend who looks a decade younger than her actual age and it’s all down to her playful demeanour.

So how can you get back into laughing?

You can laugh at yourself.

Take things a little less seriously and instead of blowing a fuse, give a guffaw!

Laugh at other people. The Darwin Award books are full of other people’s stupidity.

Watch funny shows. Fawlty Towers will always get me chuckling.

Goof around with your kids, they are experts at it and will love the experience of having a ‘silly’ grown up to join in.

Just be silly and have some fun.
