DOG owners have been warned to keep their pets away from any ‘white substance’ on beaches in the area.
Chichester District Council issued the warning, saying it was warned there was potential for palm oil to be washed up on the district’s beaches in recent weeks.
A council spokeswoman said: “The oil may appear as white balls which are likely to be natural emulsified oils and organic matter.
“They are commonly washed up on beaches following stormy sea weather.
“As a precaution, the council is advising people not to touch the items or allow pets to eat it.
“The beaches remain open as usual and the council will continue to monitor the situation.”
She said if anyone found anything suspicious they should contact the council.
