Patients face move from care cottages

RESIDENTS of Regnum Cottages in the grounds of Graylingwell Hospital, Chichester, could be moved back into the community.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is looking to move 13 people with continuing health care needs into ‘suitable alternative long-term accommodation’.

A report by the trust said: “Care coordinators and commissioners are becoming increasingly expert at developing personalised bespoke placement packages that are flexible enough to manage to individuals’ presenting needs and maintain them in a community setting rather than a hospital bed.”

The trust believe the patients, who are funded individually, might be ‘better served’ by other providers in the community. It also said the move could allow commissioners to ‘find savings’.

The trust has not yet consulted with staff, patients or their families.
