The pedestrian who died in a collision on Wednesday July 20 in Chichester has been named by police.

John Peter Worne, known as Peter, 64, from Gilmore Road, Chichester died on Friday, July 22 after he was involved in a collision with a red Kia Venga on Florence Road.

Mr Worne was flown by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital where he sadly died.

A petition calling for a pedestrian crossing in Florence Road following Mr Worne’s death has gathered more than 180 signatures so far online.

Resident Brian Keates, who started the petition in paper form, said Mr Worne was a ‘hugely popular’ character, having only moved into the road a few week’s before the incident.

Anyone who saw what happened or who may have other information concerning the collision is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Pincushion.

The petition can be signed online at change.org under ‘We want to cross safely across Florence Road Chichester’ by Florence Park Community Group.
