There were some new faces in Oving on Saturday, May 21, when people of all ages got together to celebrate its annual Scarecrow Day.
Now in its fourth year the fun community event and has really captured residents’ imaginations and is now one of the highlights of the village calendar, with people coming from miles around to take part in the trail.
This year’s event featured more than 100 scarecrows made by residents, schools and other community organisations.
They appeared in various guises including a surgeon, a sunbather and even a knight of the realm.
Tangmere-based cookery writer Rosemary Moon pedalled her way around Oving as she judged all the entries while residents and visitors also got to vote in the People’s Choice.
The winners were announced during the afternoon in the village hall by Mrs Moon. The main winner was an ensemble called Scarecrow Trio, while the popular choice prize went to Edward Scissorhands and a prize also went to Boxgrove Primary School for one of its entries.
