Children at Westbourne Primary School raised £144 for the Royal British Legion.

They held a poppy-themed cake sale to mark the 90th anniversary of the RBL.

Pupils in Year 5 were invited by their teacher Zoe Jackson to run the event, and made more than 200 cakes, with parents and other children also contributing to the fundraising effort.

The event also tied in with topic work the children have been doing this term on the second world war.

For the event pupils created posters to advertise the sale and also spoke to the children during one of their school assemblies and also made poppies.

On the day pupils learned how to take sales and give change, which incorporated the maths element to the topic.
