THE BEST nursing staff across the Observer area have the chance to get the recognition they deserve.

Nominations are open for the 2014 Proud to Care Awards, which are designed to shine a light on those who make a difference to people’s lives.

The awards are open to nurses, health visitors, midwives and care staff and both teams and individuals are eligible.

There is a Public Choice award, and the chance for NHS staff to nominate the colleagues who they feel go above and beyond the call of duty.

“NHS staff often do incredible things for the people they care for, but don’t always realise just what an incredible, positive impact they can have on someone’s life,” said Sandie Ellard, deputy director of nursing at St Richard’s Hospital.

“It might be just the small things, like taking time to talk to someone when they are feeling vulnerable, or it might be saving someone’s life in an emergency. Every day our nursing staff are doing amazing work and it is so rewarding when someone expresses their appreciation.”
