Public support helps Chichester charity shop

STAFF at a Chichester charity shop have been overwhelmed with the public response following an arson attack which destroyed their donations.

The British Heart Foundation shop in North Street was targeted in the early hours of Tuesday last week. Three of its large refuse bins, filled with donations unsuitable for sale, and its clothes bank outside the back door were destroyed in the fire.

Since then the shop has been inundated with donations from the public which has more than made up for their loss.

Manager at the shop, Rebecca Hilsdon said: “Everybody has been coming in saying they have read about it and I would like to say a massive thank you to the people of Chichester and the surrounding areas because it’s helped replace what we have lost. It really goes to show there are a lot of fantastic people out there.

“But we are still having the bins broken into every night and we are reporting it to the police every day.”
