The first shop in Chichester’s newly-refurbished Butter Market opened to great interest from shoppers.
Cake shop Patisserie Valerie, which occupies the largest unit on the ground floor, was opened by mayor of the city, Cllr Michael Woolley.
A large crowd gathered to watch him cut the ribbon with the help of two can can dancers.
“It’s a great honour for me to open this building,” he said.
“Personally I am very pleased it is Patisserie Valerie opening.
“It is in keeping with the food tradition, and this has been traditionally a food market.”
