The reverse advent calendar campaign was organised by Kate Portlock and friend Mark Lewis, owner of a hair salon in the village.

Kate explained: “The idea of a reverse advent calendar is that every day for a month you put an item of food into a box, which is then donated to the local food bank.

“Using social media, we thought we could spread the idea around leading up to Christmas.

“We are absolutely blown away by the kindness and thought that has been put into every single box. This has been a lovely thing to be a part of, reinforcing the wonderful community spirit in East Wittering.

“Mark and I would like to thank each and every person who has donated a reverse advent calendar. We can’t wait to do it again next year.”

All the boxes were collected from Mark Lewis Hair Salon, in Longlands Road, this morning and taken to Chichester Food Bank, where they will be distributed to families in need.

Kate added: “We are overwhelmed by the response to this. We have many, many boxes. All of which have had tremendous love and thought go into them.

“I collected all of the boxes from around the village on Thursday night and we filled Mark’s hair salon. Amazing!”
