DRIVERS were held up getting into a city centre car park after a barrier was stuck down this morning (October 21).

One of the two barriers at the entrance of the Avenue de Chartres car park was down this morning, causing tailbacks onto the roundabout and along Avenue de Chartres and the Via Ravenna.

This follows reports from earlier this week of problems with the computer software at the barriers. According to some drivers, the number plate recognition software did not appear to be working, with some getting a ticket with just a number of ‘hashtags’ instead of a number plate printed on it.

There were also reports of drivers queuing to get out on October 19 after problems with one of the exit barriers.

However, this morning one driver said apart from today she had not experienced many problems with the car park.

“A couple of times when it first went to this system but nothing really major,” said Rona Westwood when asked if she had experienced many problems with the car park since it went from pay and display to pay on exit.

“I must say they did have a lot of people on hand to help sort it out (when there were earlier problems) and I do use it every day.”
