Worthing High Mathematicians making their mark
MATHEMATICIANS from Worthing High School have celebrated success in a county maths competition.
Daniel Flynn, Nora Elliott, James Slater and Joe Miles, pictured, in year nine, claimed third place in the West Sussex mathematics team competition, behind Steyning Grammar School and a Crawley school.
Teacher Andrew Lutwyche said: "We were lying about 14th before the last round, but the team did absolutely superbly, getting 405 out of a possible 525 marks, 50 marks more than their nearest rivals.
"It was a fantastic effort."
The team members – who achieved the school's best result for a few years in this particular competition – were selected on the basis of class performance and how well they did in the intermediate UK maths challenge earlier in the school year.
