A SELSEY resident is feeling on top of the world after completing a sponsored sky dive for the Apuldram Centre.

Joe Roddis completed the challenge last week to mark his 90th birthday and has raised almost £4,000 for the charity, which provides training opportunities for adults with learning difficulties.

Joe travelled to Wiltshire to do the skydive and was watched by a five-strong group of family and friends.

“When I jumped out of the plane I felt totally lost – I’d never done it before so I didn’t know what to expect,” he said.

“The instructor shoves you over the edge into space and you are tumbling and falling in all directions.

“Before you do it he makes you go towards the edge of the door, and that was a bit nerve-racking, with your feet over the edge.”

Joe said everyone had looked after him very well and that he had enjoyed the experience very much.

“It was very beautiful from the air and with all the different colours of the grasses, it was wonderful looking round.”

On Friday, June 10, Joe visited the Apuldram Centre to hand over the cheque.
