While some folks might send a 90th birthday card bought from the shops, or do it the easy way, online, Lavant Parish Council, just north of Chichester, decided to be different as this card was for the very special birthday of an amazing lady – HRH The Queen.

All the organisations were assembled for a picture, with one person from each organisation and three children from the schools, plus one horse and rider, Molly the dog and the council, which organised the event.

The sun was shining, spirits were high and everyone smiled.

Last Tuesday, Imogen Whitaker, clerk to the council, dispatched the birthday by special delivery.

The card was sent with love and affection the Queen. It carried a simple message with very best wishes from the village of Lavant and many happy returns. The message wished her a very happy birthday on her 90th celebration.

The birthday card, with a representative from every Lavant village organisation, represented 23 groups and organisations.

The idea for the personal birthday card came from Lavant Parish Council chairman Ian Hutton and villager Michael Burton. Lavant villagers, being a modest population, were asked to meet at the Memorial Hall while the sun was shining.

The groups represented included the parish council, Women’s Institute, the Memorial Hall, Parochial Church Council, Lavant Toddler Group, Royal British Legion, Lavant Friendly Club, Gardens of Lavant, St Wilfred’s Hospice Support Group, football club, cricket club, Lavant Players, Lavant News, The Royal Yacht Britannia – J Sharrod, Lavant Valley Allotment Association, Neighbourhood Watch, Lavant Open House, horticultural society, Lavant Volunteers, Lavant House School, Lavant Primary School, Friends of Lavant Primary School and Lavant House Stables.
