THE PHONE line for reporting non-emergency calls to Sussex Police has gone down today (November 22).
Sussex Police has released a statement, saying the disruption is set to continue into the afternoon.
Inspector Andy Kille from Sussex Police said: “Unfortunately, callers using the 101 number are getting a ringing tone, but there is no indication that there is a fault and the calls aren’t being received by our call handlers.”
Sussex Police said it was a ‘national problem with the 101 telephone number’, which was affecting around 75 per cent of the country’s police forces.
The force said the emergency 999 number was not affected, however the 101 number fault was expected to continue.
A spokesman asked people not to use the 999 service for non-emergency calls.
