Tangmere barracks sold for £300,000

WEST Sussex County Council stands to receive some extra cash, after Tangmere barracks were sold at auction.

The Grade II-listed building went under the auctioneers hammer in Brighton on September 16.

Sam Kinloch, senior auctioneer valuer, said: “A private individual put in a winning bid of £300,000.

“We are not privy to any plans for the barracks but a residential scheme could touch down as it was sold with the planning permission.”

West Sussex County Council instructed Clive Emson, the regional land and property auctioneers, to sell the Grade II-listed, two-storey property, which has planning permission to be converted into 11 residential apartments.

The barracks formerly provided accommodation for pilots flying out of RAF Tangmere.

Based at City Fields Way, it comprised four barrack rooms on each floor, each with 12 beds and wardrobes.
