Bags of donations are wanted in a unique fundraising move by a builders’ merchant in Bognor Regis.

Covers is believed to be the first company in the industry to take part in a Bagathon with the British Heart Foundation.

The initiative was launched by the town’s mayor, Cllr Eileen Anderson, on Monday at the company’s Station Yard site.

Cllr Mrs Anderson led by example by taking along two bags packed with goods to donate to the charity.

She said: “I’m all for anything which will help a charity, and this is a very good idea.”

Branch manager Sean Clarke said: “The BHF is a well-known charity and we are in a good location in the town centre where people can pop into our car park to drop off their bags of items.

“The bags should be filled with goods like clothing, shoes and CDs.

It is also being run at the Covers branches in Chichester and Horsham, and will last until December 31.
