ASPIRING young drivers, engineers and mechanics are preparing to take to the motor circuit at Goodwood for the Greenpower car finals.
More than 100 teams and 1,000 students will compete at the famous circuit in single-seater electric race cars they have designed and built.
The main race of the day is for 11- to 16-year-olds who compete in a four-hour endurance race.
“Greenpower is a fantastically great initiative. We are very pleased with the finals being at Goodwood,” said Lord March, a patron of the Greenpower Education Trust.
“We’ve been involved since the very beginning, and we’re very proud to be part of it.”
Although most of the teams are from schools, a new challenge will be held, seeing teams from the corporate world take part in a short 90-minute race against students.
A police team is also taking part for the first time.
Falmouth police, in Cornwall, are using Greenpower to involve the local community in a bid to nip potential trouble makers in the bud before problems arise.
As well as teams from across the country, there will also be American and Polish teams, making the event truly international.
The finals take place on Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Car parking costs £5.
