A RESIDENT has been left fuming after a housing association left his family with no secure back door for nearly two months.
Dean Saunders, 17, of Bracklesham Bay, lives with his mum and step-dad, and when he opened the back door in June, it fell on him.
“We opened the door and it fell off the hinges,” he said.
He contacted the housing association A2 Dominion to see if the door could be fixed.
“We had to call many times – at least four before we managed to get someone out as no-one seemed to believe what we were stating had happened,” he said.
“We had to send them pictures before they would take us seriously. We was treated as if we were stupid and one member of staff put the phone down on us which we thought was very rude.”
Dean said a contractor was sent out 72-hours later, and fixed the door on with cable wires. However, the contractor said the family could not use the door until it had been replaced by A2 Dominion.
“I said surely that is a fire hazard and he said we would have to use the windows as a fire exit,” said Dean. “We have also have animals that need the use of the back garden.”
Since then, the A2 Dominion has failed to replace the back door, and Dean said it is just held in place by the wires.
“We have been left with what we feel as an insecure back door for over a month,” said Dean.
“We are still waiting for a new door to be fitted and is at risk of falling right off and causing serious injury.”
David Lingeman, A2 Dominion group director of property services, said the door would be installed today (August 15).
“The problem was reported to us on June 28 and we attended the property within the first 24 hours to assess the damage to the door,” he said.
“Upon inspection, it became clear that a new door frame was required. This specific style of frame takes around four weeks to be manufactured by a specialist.
“As an interim measure, we made sure the door was left in a secure state and advised the residents not to use the door.
“We apologise to the Saunders family for the inconvenience, and thank them for their patience, during the time taken to manufacture and install the new door frame.”
