CHICHESTER Cathedral welcomed a bright red London bus this month.

The Tax Justice Bus Tour 2012, run jointly by Christian Aid and Church Action on Poverty, is touring the country promoting the fight against tax dodgers and promoting tax justice.

The bus was two weeks into a seven-week tour which will take in 50 towns and cities. It is encouraging local communities to join together and pressure the government into taking greater action to enforce tax justice to reduce global poverty.

The bus parked up at St Paul’s Church in the morning before moving on to the cathedral, where local church leaders met to discuss the issues about which the tour is campaigning.

Canon Tim Schofield, precentor of the cathedral, said afterwards: “We’re very pleased as a cathedral to welcome the bus on to the cathedral grounds.

“We are concerned for the poor, both globally in terms of Christian Aid and also in other local issues such as setting up the church food banks.”
