PLANS to introduce double yellow lines on city streets look set to be scrapped after failing to secure the support of the new councillor.
The proposals for Palmers Field Avenue, Barnfield Drive and the surrounding roads to the north-east of Chichester city centre, will be debated at a meeting of the south Chichester county local committee tomorrow night (Tuesday, September 10).
However, officers are recommending the plan is withdrawn.
During the public consultation, West Sussex County Council received two letters of objection and one letter of support for the plans, which included introducing double yellow lines at the following junctions: Palmers Field Avenue with Barnfield Drive; Barnfield Drive with Bradshaw Road; and Bradshaw Road with Tenacre Close, Millfield Close, Conduit Mead and Swanfield Drive.
However, after the consultation had finished a new county councillor, Simon Oakley, was elected to the Chichester East division.
He said the accident statistics indicated it was a relatively safe area and there was little current support for the scheme.
