HORRIFIED shoppers watched this afternoon (November 27) as a wheel-spinning car crashed into a shop window, briefly pinning a 58-year-old man against the glass.

At 2.50pm the driver of a red car, which is believed to be an automatic, was attempting to park outside the Lakeland store in North Street, Chichester.

“I could hear wheels spinning and rubber burning,” said store manager Amy Hudson.

“I saw the poor guy’s arms go up and I heard someone shout ‘stop’.”

The car mounted the curb and hit the window, trapping the man walking on the pavement.

She added: “She hit him at quite a force - the car wheels span for a couple of seconds.”

Sussex Police has confirmed the man was taken to St Richard’s Hospital with what is believed at this stage to be minor injuries.

The driver, who was described as elderly, was treated for shock.

Numerous emergency calls were made and paramedics, police, and the fire and rescue service all attended the scene.
