UPDATE: Man airlifted to hospital after car and lorry crash in Chichester

A MAN, believed to be in his 50s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance following a crash in Chichester today (Friday, September 14).

Firefighters were called to a collision between a car and a lorry in Salthill Road at 11.16am.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have now confirmed the injured man, originally thought to be the driver of the lorry, was the driver of the car.

He was rescued from the car by firefighters and treated by medical teams at the scene before being airlifted to Southampton Hospital.

The driver of the lorry managed to free himself before crews arrived.

Two trucks from Chichester and a heavy rescue tender attended the scene.

Crews were stood down at 12.21pm today.
