UPDATE: Two men remain in hospital after Halnaker crash

TWO people are still in hospital after a car hit a tree in Halnaker on Friday (May 24).

A 78-year-old man was driving a black Mercedes, and suffered serious injuries after hitting a tree, alongside his 17-year-old passenger.

The driver was treated by paramedics at the scene and then taken to St Richards Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The passenger was airlifted to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment, and also had serious injuries.

Police, ambulance and West Sussex Fire and Rescue were called to the incident on the A285, at Thicket Lane at around 3.09pm.

PC Jon Lawson from Road Policing Unit said: “If you witnessed the collision or saw the Mercedes prior to the incident then please call 101 quoting serial 926 of 24/5 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.

“The road was closed for several hours whilst West Sussex Fire and Rescue worked to released both men who trapped in the vehicle. I know this caused quite a tail back of traffic and I would like to thank drivers for their patience.”
