THERE have been heavy delays on the A27 west of Chichester after two crashes this morning in wet conditions.

Just after 7am today (Thursday, January 8, police were called to the A27 westbound between Chichester and Portsmouth, close to the Fishbourne roundabout.

A grey Toyota RAV4 car had left the road and gone into a ditch following a collision with a green Land Rover Defender 110.

Then at 9.43am police were called to the same road eastbound at Hambrook.

A green Rover saloon had left the carriageway and collided with the central reservation crash barrier.

One lane of the A27 eastbound was closed from 10.20am as the incident was being dealt with, causing heavy delays and tailbacks.

Heavy rain in the area could have contributed to the accidents.

No one was reported to have suffered injury in either crash, police said.
