TWO GP practices in Selsey are set to merge – to give the ‘best possible care’ for patients.

Seal Medical Group will be joining Selsey Medical Practice in July in a bid to provide a ‘stronger, more innovative’ service.

The new practice will still be based at the Medical Centre on the High Street and will be called Selsey Medical Practice.

Health bosses said there are no planned staff changes as a result of the merger.

Two Practice Managers said: “We strongly believe this merger will be a beneficial move and will secure the best possible care for local patients.

“We are both small practices, and although we appreciate the benefits this brings for patients, it can be very challenging with all of the demands today on modern GP practices.

“We are not looking to change our culture or how we treat our patients, but by bringing together our collective skills and experience, we can create a stronger, more innovative practice for local patients, and for the future.

“Both practices pride themselves on the familiarity we have with our patients and how we believe we know our patients, and we can assure all patients that this will not change.

“Bringing the two practices together means that our clinical team will have a much broader base of medical skills and experience, and we will be more resilient as a whole team during times of significant demand.

“We will also be able to explore how we can offer more services for our patients, bringing care closer to home which is very exciting for the Selsey community.”

Patients are being written to and will not need to do anything during the merger.

Patients who are currently registered with Seal Medical Group will transfer to Selsey Medical Practice, and for the time being the telephone numbers for both GP practices will reach the combined team.

Any patient receiving care from the GP practice or a community or local hospital will not be affected.

Gail Isted, business manager at Seal Medical Group said: “It has been a huge privilege for Seal Medical Group to have provided care and support for our patients in Selsey over many years, and we look forward to this new and exciting step forward.”
