A young chess player is in with a chance of winning £2,000 after reaching the last round of a schools challenge.

Paul Northcott, who is in Year 7 at Bourne Community College, Southbourne, has made it to the ‘terafinal’ of the Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge, a competition which attracted more than 20,000 youngsters, aged 18 and under, from all over the country.

The ‘terafinal’ will be held at Loughborough Grammar School over the weekend of August 15/16.

Paul’s journey to the final saw him take first place in the boys’ under 12 age group in the county and southern regional rounds – known as the ‘megafinal’ and ‘gigafinal’ respectively.
