HOLIDAY makers have been left shocked after a dead body was removed from the water at Bognor Regis.
The coastguard helicopter and the Selsey lifeboat were called to the sea just south of the pier, a mile off shore, around 3pm yesterday (Monday, August 12).
A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said although search and rescue resources were used, unfortunately in this instance it was merely for the recovery of the body.
Kylie Farndell, was visiting the town from south London, she said: “We had just been to get a drink and an ice-cream and were sat on the stones when we noticed a lot of commotion in the water and around the edge.
“You could see the lifeboat and it was clearly doing something. When we found out they had been called because a body has been seen it was a complete shock.”
Sussex Police were notified of the incident by the coastguard around 4pm. The matter will now be dealt with by the coroner.
