THE Environment Agency today (January 8) issued a flood alert for Emsworth.
Residents were today warned about flooding in Bridge Road, Emsworth and around the River Ems. The warning is no longer in place for Bridge Road.
Drivers are also warning of delays on the A27 from Havant to Chichester due to flooding.
At the River Ems, heavy rainfall totalling 20mm fell overnight, and a further 10mm was expected before 11am this morning.
River levels on the River Ems have risen and may rise further before they are expected to stabilise this afternoon. The Environment Agency warned flooding to properties ‘may be possible’.
The Environment Agency (EA) said at 9am this morning: “20mm of rain has fallen in the last six hours.
“Levels in the West Brook are high but currently stable. Environment Agency staff are on site clearing grills and reducing levels in the Mill Pond.
“A further 15mm of rain is expected in the next two hours, most of which might actually fall in the next hour.
“Flooding from the river and surface water is therefore possible in Bridge Road. Any residents with flood protection products should install them now.”
A warning was also issued for Havant town centre on the Lavant Stream.
The EA said: “15mm of rain has fallen in the last four hours and further heavy rain is expected to fall until 11am this morning. River levels are rising rapidly at Eastern Road, Havant.
“Environment Agency staff are on route to clear grills however, due to the intensity of the rain currently forecast and the fast responding nature of the river, flooding is expected in this location.”
