Lavant Road has been re-opened after a three-vehicle collision between Lavant and Chichester, police have confirmed via twitter.

Three people were taken to hospital following the crash at 12.30pm on the A286 between the Hunters Race junction and the Wellington Road junction.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the road was closed in both directions for a number of hours while investigation work was carried out.

Among those injured are two elderly people who had to be cut from one of the cars involved.

A West Sussex Fire & Rescue spokeswoman said a heavy rescue tender from Chichester and the retained crew from Bognor were in attendance.

She said: “Three vehicles are involved, two elderly people had to be extracated from one of the cars.

“Three people were conveyed to hospital.”

The tweet from Chichester Police thanked the public for their patience following the road closure.
