GAS workers are still trying to fix a ruptured main in a Tangmere residential street.

SGN confirmed this evening (October 7) that 70 homes have been evacuated and as of 7.30pm they were still working on the site.

Police have put out a further statement, urging Tangmere residents to keep windows shut after the main was ruptured in Woodfield Close.

“A number of homes have already been evacuated following the breach of a gas main by workmen in Woodfield Close at 4.23pm on Wednesday afternoon,” said a Sussex Police spokesman.

“There are no reports of any injuries. Some houses in Woodfield Close and Chichester Drive have been evacuated and arrangements have been made for residents to be accommodated for the time being at the village hall.”
