LESS than 24 hours after Midhurst’s ‘Happy’ video was posted on Youtube it had been viewed more than 1500 times.
It is a joint project organised by Midhurst Together and the Midhurst Tourism Partnership and the aim was to showcase Midhurst as a great place to live and visit.
It caught the imagination of the town and scores of groups, individuals and businesses took part from MADhurst to the church congregation, staff and members at the new Grange Centre and elderly members of Rother Valley Together.
The video is Midhurst’s own version of the one which goes with American singer-songwriter Pharrell Willams’ ‘Happy’ song.
It was launched yesterday (Sunday, May 11) at a special ‘Community Celebration’ service, in the parish church as part of a ‘Community Links Celebration’ weekend.
The service came hot on the heels of a BBC Sussex radio interview with Midhurst vicar The Rev Dave Willis and Sarah Murison one of the video organisers.
Following the service the video was available to view at the Grange as part of the Grange Community Day.
It was posted last night (Sunday May 11), on the brand new Midhurst Together YouTube Channel.
“Please spread the word and share it as widely as you can,” said Jeannette Sutton and Sarah Murison,” who were leading members of the Midhurst Happy organising group
Throughout the weekend the parish church celebrated ‘Happy Midhurst’ with a flower filled church on Saturday when visitors enjoyed the specially decorated church which was planned by Hazel Nadin who led the flower arranging team
On Saturday evening the church hosted musical theatre ‘greats’ performed by The Midhurst Players and directed by Yvonne Warren, previously performed to great acclaim at The Spread Eagle as part of MADhurst’s Festival last summer.
On Sunday Dave Willis abandoned his surplice and donned a dinner suit to introduce the premiere of ‘Happy Midhurst’.
“Many people are working hard to continue to develop a strong, positive community in Midhurst and ‘happiness’ was in abundance in and around the church at the weekend,” said Dave.
