VIDEO: Selsey lifeboat launched after ‘flare’ spotted

THE SELSEY lifeboat was launched on Saturday (November 1) night to scour the water off the coast.

The crew was paged at 8.58pm by the coastguard, who received a report from Pagham Yacht Club of a red flare sighting.

The lifeboat launched and headed towards Pagham Harbour.

The coastguard requested the lifeboat search from that position close inshore towards Littlehampton using radar and search lights.

Littlehampton lifeboat was launched at 9.30pm to assist and started their search at the entrance to Littlehampton harbour heading towards Pagham.

Selsey lifeboat had no contacts on radar and nothing visible and Littlehampton reported no sighting other than a considerable amount of firework displays going on along the coast.

At 9.53pm Solent Coastguards called the search off requesting both lifeboats return to their stations.
