Around 450 walkers took part in the ten-mile walk around Chichester which started off just after midnight from Westgate Leisure and carried on into the early hours of today (Saturday, June 22).

Jill Dennison, from the hospice, said: “It is just nice to see so many people support the hospice and stay awake so long. To do this when they would probably rather be in bed or out partying.

“A big thank you as well to all our marshals without whom we couldn’t do it.”

Tony Gregory, Robert Gregory and Alan Fowler were walking last night.

“My mum, Tony’s partner, passed away last year and St Wilfrid’s did a great job of looking after her,” explained Alan.

Also walking was a team of Chichester community nurses.

“We have a lot of involvement with St Wilfrid’s,” said one of the team, Helen Mustard. “We work very closely so it is good to support them.”

Another nurse, Verity Young, added: “For me it is really personal because I lost my dad to cancer.”
