CROWDS in Tillington braved the rain to support fellow villager Gerald Gresham Cooke who has been hailed as a community hero.

The 70-year old said it was one of the proudest moments of his life as he took custody of the torch today (Monday, July 16) in front of friends and family who had travelled from across the region to cheer him on.

He said: “It is so lovely that the torch is here in Tillington and I feel very proud to have this opportunity, I just couldn’t be happier.”
