A PETITION against 500 new homes in East Wittering and Bracklesham has been launched by residents.
The move is in response to an appeal by Wates Developments, which contests the 100-home figure for the parish in the district’s local plan.
Chichester District Council has allocated 100 homes for East Witternig and Bracklesham in the next 15 years, 67 of which already have planning permission.
The developer is set to ask a government planning inspector who is reviewing the local plan, to increase the number of homes to 500.
Now, residents have come together to form a petition fighting the plan.
As the Observer went to press, the there were more than 250 signatures online and a number which had been given in by hand.
As well as this, a group of parishes on the Manhood Peninsula is set to contest the plans by Wates Developments.
The appeal will be heard at a series of hearings which will review the local plan as a whole.
The Manhood Peninsula is set to be considered on November 6, at the council’s offices at East Pallant House Chichester.
