VOLUNTEERS were thanked for their role in helping children to read during the summer holidays.

West Sussex Library Service supported the national Summer Reading Challenge, entitled Creepy House.

More than 11,000 children participated across the county and libraries recruited volunteers, mainly 14- to 25-year-olds, to talk to the children about the books they read.

The volunteers from libraries in the Chichester and Bognor Regis areas were presented with certificates on September 12 at Chichester Library by deputy mayor John Hughes.
