ORGANISERS will be hoping it is second time lucky for a celebration of local produce this weekend.
Hampshire Farmers’ Markets will stage its first market in Emsworth on Saturday.
The first planned market in January had to be cancelled because of bad weather.
“We are hoping that the weather will be kinder to us in mid-February,” said Alex Handford, business manager for the market.
“The snow in January prevented safe access in the Palmers Road car park and many of our producers living in more rural locations found it difficult to get out to the main roads.
“The producers are now looking forward to coming to Emsworth and selling their local produce.”
Producers will be setting up in the car park from 10am until 2pm and a taster unit will offer samples. Visitors to the Emsworth market will also have the opportunity to enter a competition to win a Hampshire Farmers’ Market hamper packed with local produce.
Alex said, instead of meaning more competition for Emsworth retailers, the market would increase footfall, increasing opportunities for existing retailers.
“We are looking forward to working closely with the Emsworth community and retailers and to complement the established retail offering in the town,” he said.
