Discipline ‘is needed’

I CAN remember many tears ago, when at what schooling I received during the second world war, the ruler across the knuckles was the norm if one played around in classes, and a caning by the headmaster on the palms of one’s hand ensured we didn’t mess around too often, and as they were there to teach, we had to learn.

It taught me discipline and self-discipline, which served its purpose for me when doing National Service in the RAF during 1948-50.

The manner in which we live now dictates how we behave, and of the 60-odd college students I’ve had to stay in 12 years, very few have mentioned the word. The use of ruler and cane should be brought back to ensure our teachers are not wasting their time! The positive response is YES... do it NOW.
