Families not HMOs

WITH reference to your front page headline (Observer, September 1) encouraging landlords to purchase affordable properties to house students, do you people at the Observer realise we residents on these affordable estates are trying to discourage our houses from being converted into HMOs (student lets).

These properties were built for young families with children and in easy reach of the five schools in close proximity to these estates.

The percentage of houses on the Little Breach estate now converted into student accommodation exceeds ten per cent.

As suggested many months ago, why wasn’t the old army barracks turned into student accommodation?

It’s close to the university and ready-made for the job.
