LETTER: Build homes not houses please

I fully appreciate what a lovely area I am privileged to live in. And I also appreciate that with an increased population there is a need for more homes.

What I wish to stress please is to our Chichester District Council to ensure these 7,400 are homes not houses.

My understanding is that a bye law states 20 per cent local connection, 20 per cent low cost and a huge 60 per cent open market.

This means more holiday homes, worthy investments for overseas persons. Surely this is not what the district needs.

In my opinion we do not need more houses empty months on end.

Empty houses does not help the homeless or those wishing to move to the area in perhaps retirement because there certainly don’t appear that many jobs in the district.

I was pleased to see yesterday that the mayor of London is investigating the ‘overseas’ issue because of the enormous off-shore investments buying up blocks and blocks of apartments, creating housing chaos not only in London but in other cities in the UK being affected.

I have been banging on about this for several years, and I am simply a fortunate home owner!

Surely others more influential can please take heed?

Perhaps the bye law needs updating.
