LETTER: Compensation for residents?

May I pose a question or two through your column with regards to the A259 North Bersted Relief Road - Felpham?

As a resident of a property that runs alongside Rowan Way, it is quite apparent to me that since this road has been fully opened, for some reason it has changed from being used locally and fairly quiet, to now a major route with articulated lorries etc using the road on a daily basis, if

the plans go ahead for new homes on Chalcroft Lane, there will be additional traffic for Rowan Way to contend with.

I’m wondering if it would be in the interest of West Sussex County Council who approve the relief road, to impose a weight restriction on the use of Rowan Way so that the relief road is used to it’s full potential.

Would the powers that be, also consider compensating the residents who are affected if nothing is done?.

Another drawback is now Rowan Way is a continuous stretch of road from North Bersted Street mini roundabout to the A259 North Bersted relief road roundabout, this is causing traffic to exceed the speed limit imposed. Would it not be advisable to place some form of traffic calming as sadly the police do not have the resources to implement the 30mph limit.

I welcome any views on the matters that I have raised.
