LETTER: No co-operation from impatient drivers

THE truly appalling traffic jam on the Manhood Peninsular was not caused by the actual road works on the Selsey road, clearly a job had to be done and it was safer to keep most of the traffic away.

The real reason? Drivers on the Birdham Road simply did not have the courtesy to stop briefly and let vehicles merge into, and out of, Wophams Lane and Sidlesham Lane, causing the disgraceful tailbacks on all diversion routes leading from the B2145.

Would it have been too difficult for the council to have put either temporary traffic lights, or people with stop/go boards, at both those junctions with the Birdham road, to give all motorists a fair chance of moving more than a few inches at a time?
