I AGREE wholeheartedly with your correspondents Ray Hagger and Alison Young.
I was born in Bognor Regis and have witnessed the loss of many amenities like the Theatre Royal, Rex Building and Esplanade Theatre, to name a few. Older attractive buildings have either been demolished or converted in to yet more flats, the Royal Hotel being the latest.
Regeneration has been talked about for more than 30 years but nothing comes to fruition.
It would be interesting to know how much money the local council has spent on endless consultations with nothing to show for it.
The Sir Richard Hotham scheme put forward was far and away the best and most attractive proposal, but I understand the council has now said this is not their vision for the site.
Well, what is their vision? There is little point in having endless consultations with local people and then totally ignoring what they want.
Residents in and around the Bognor area pay their council tax and seem to get less for it than places like Littlehampton, which has improved greatly over the last 30 years.
If we want to attract businesses and visitors we must have suitable venues and leisure facilities, good shops and restaurants and the necessary road improvements.
