THIS year's Goodwood Festival of Speed is promising even more thrills and spills, as part of the 60th anniversary of motor sport at the estate.
The event takes place from July 11 to July 13 and the main theme will be Hawthorn to Hamilton – Britain's Love Affair with World Motor Sport which will focus on Britain's key role in the global motor racing industry.

And to mark the 100th year since the birth of writer Ian Fleming, visitors will be able to marvel at a display of some of the most dazzling cars from the Bond films including the Aston Martin from Goldfinger and the Lotus Esprit submarine from The Spy Who Loved Me.

The festival will be celebrating 50 years of the British Touring Car Championship and fans will be able to see a display of 20 cars from dating from the 1960s.

Star driver Jack Sears will be at the wheel of the 1963 Ford Galaxie in which he took his second title while four-time champion Andy Rouse will also be displaying his skills.

It is hoped Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton will also be appearing at the event.

At the launch last week his father Anthony said Lewis was very much looking forward to appearing.

Asked how he felt about his son being part of the inspiration of this year's event, Anthony said: "It's a mixture of embarrassment and excitement. Hawthorn achieved quite a lot in his life and we are just starting out. We had a good year last year, and we hope to live up to that."

For the 14th successive year visitors will also be able to admire creativity and ingenuity as part of the Style et Luxe competition for new car designs.

Judges will include art critic Brian Sewell, Queen drummer Roger Taylor and Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, who was at the launch last week.

This year the festival will also be celebrating the 60th year since Sir Stirling Moss won his first race at Goodwood.

He said: "This is the best there is. It's a wonderful event, you can meet up with old friends and see other drivers. The Festival of Speed really is held up as the best of these kinds of events."

And, of course, there will be plenty for younger motoring fans to enjoy as well.

Goodwood will be completing its fleet of popular Wacky Racers, with the bullet-proof bomb with the Ant Hill Mob, and there will be a wide range of activities such as driving simulators, skating and boarding and the MAD mountainbike stunt riders who will be dazzling crowds with their leaps, jumps and bunnyhops.

Lord March said he was very much looking forward to the event: "It's going to be a really big one this year. We are celebrating 60 years of racing at Goodwood and we are hoping this year's event will be absolutely fantastic."
