Chichester Festival Theatre's multi-award winning production of Macbeth has been nominated for six Tony Awards, the most prestigious theatre awards in the USA.
The Tony Awards recognise excellence in live American Theatre. Macbeth has been nominated for the Best Revival of a Play with Patrick Stewart up for Best Performance by a Leading Actor and Kate Fleetwood nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Ac
tress.

Anthony Ward has been nominated for Best Scenic Design for his atmospheric set; Howard Harrison for Best Lighting Design and Adam Cork for Best Sound Design.

The winners will be announced in a ceremony hosted by Whoopi Goldberg at the Radio City Music Hall in New York on June 15.

Macbeth transferred to the Lyceum Theatre on New York's Broadway after critically-acclaimed, sell-out runs at Chichester's Minerva Theatre, London's West End and at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music).

Jonathan Church, artistic director of Chichester Festival Theatre, said: "Macbeth really was a production of a lifetime. Working together with a remarkable cast and creative team was a very special experience and is something that we are all immensely proud to have been part of.

"You dream of a project starting out at a studio theatre in Chichester and ending up on Broadway being nominated for Tony Awards a year later. "

Patrick Stewart said: "This is my first Tony nomination after performing on Broadway for more than 30 years and it has certainly been worth waiting for - I couldn't be happier. It's been an extraordinary journey from the Minerva Theatre to Broadway and I congratulate Chichester Festival Theatre – we all share in this success."

Since opening at Chichester in May 2007, Macbeth has brought home a string of awards including Evening Standard Awards for Best Actor and Best Director and a TMA Award for Best Performance in a Play and Olivier Awards for Best Director and Best Lighting Design.
