It's official, Adur's wheelie bins are here
ADUR'S new wheelie bin service has been officially launched.
Managed by Adur and Worthing Council Services, the first phase of the scheme started in north-west Worthing in September.
Wheelie bins are now rolling out to homes in Shoreham, Southwick, Fishersgate and some areas of Lancing – with blue lids for recycling and grey for refuse.
Green-fingered Adur residents will have the added benefit of a weekly garden waste collection bin, for £50 per year, or to buy sacks for 50p.
The scheme in Worthing has resulted in recycling increasing by almost 600 tonnes.
The amount of waste going to landfill has fallen more than 1,300 tonnes.
Adur District Council chairman Brenda Collard said the new bins would stop seagulls and other birds tearing open bin bags on the street and the scheme would make the district a nicer place to live.
She added: "We are going to be keeping Adur cleaner. It's going to be wonderful."
